Bigfoot skeptic stumbled on footprints in Indiana woods

A “curious skeptic” took to the Bigfoot Believer’s Facebook page to share photos documenting strange observations in a wooded area near his property in North Central Indiana.

The observations taken together left the skeptic reconsidering his skepticism.

The culmination of the strange sightings in the woods was the discovery of suspected Bigfoot prints.

Tree markers and broken stems

Facebook user Tod Erbaugh first shared photos purportedly documenting tell-tale evidence of a strange creature roaming the woods on the Bigfoot Believer’s Facebook forum (see below) on December 11, 2023,

The first photo showed a small tree with a slender stem broken at a sharp 90-degree angle as though someone deliberately snapped it to mark the spot.

Tod explained that a deer with antlers could break the tree, but he ruled it out because he took the photo in the spring “before the deer are fully antlers out.”

Another photo showed tree stems arranged in a complex crisscrossing pattern around a tree. It seemed reasonable to conclude that an intelligent creature set up the pattern.

A resonant howl and tree knocks

Tod also claimed he heard resonant howls while hunting deer in the woods. It was so deep and resonant that he felt it reverberating in his chest.

Following the incident, he and his son heard loud knocking in the forest. He likely suspected that the knocking was the legendary Sasquatch tree knock.

Folklore claims that Sasquatch (4) sometimes communicates with each other by knocking a stick or wooden club against a tree. They use the knocking sound to signal their location to others or warn of danger (such as humans approaching).

Bigfoot prints

More recently, on the evening of February 14, Tim and his son heard a strange “clacking” sound from the woods. It continued for a while, sometimes coming in quick succession.

Tod tried to simulate the sound by knocking two stones against each other. The resulting sound was almost identical to the “clacking” sound.

Whoever was making the noise seemed to be responding but stopped after a while.

The next day, Tod and his son decided to walk in the direction the noise came from.

Along the way, they stumbled upon what appeared to be oversized footprints. They saw several but shared only a photo of the best preserved.

He placed his booted foot next to the much larger print and explained that his foot was about 11.5 inches long.

“So many things that point to something strange happening,” Tim mused in his Facebooked comment.

Facebook reactions

Many Facebook users agree that the complex pattern of the tree stems seemed purposeful.

“Common sense says this was constructed,” a Facebook user wrote, “not some random trees falling together from wind or rot or whatever.”

The footprint received mixed reactions. Many believers thought it was genuine and offered convincing evidence of Bigfoot.

But others were skeptical and expressed doubt.

Skeptical responses

A point that many skeptics raised was the placement of the footprint on a patch of ground entirely bare of leaves in an area thick with fallen leaves.

It seemed to the skeptics that someone purposely attempted to create a complete print by clearing the leaves away from the area.

“It does seem a bit strange that the leaves would be so perfectly cleared away from a single footprint,” a user commented. “It could be that the photo has been edited or retouched in some way to make the footprint more visible.”

But some believers dismissed the skeptical comments, saying it could have happened by chance.
