Conspiracy theories have dubbed a triangular-shaped area of Alaska the Alaska Triangle, following allegations of diverse paranormal phenomena, UFO sightings, and encounters with fierce cryptids occurring there.
Some also alleged that an estimated 20,000 people have mysteriously vanished in the area.
Alaska Triangle derives inspiration from the infamous Bermuda Triangle in the North Atlantic off the coast of Florida. It is to the south of the island of Bermuda and north of Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean.
The Bermuda Triangle gained notoriety following claims of paranormal events, including the mysterious disappearances of aircraft and ships.
Alleged paranormal phenomena in the Alaska Triangle
Reports of strange events ascribed to supernatural or paranormal causes have also come for the alleged Alaska Triangle.
According to Travel Channel, the Alaska Triangle stretches from the north to the south of central Alaska between Utqiagvik, Anchorage, and Juneau in the southeast.
People disappeared mysteriously
Thousands of people, including residents, tourists, and hikers, have reportedly gone mysteriously missing in the area in the past decades. They disappeared without leaving traces.
Between 16,000 and 20,000 people have gone mysteriously missing in the area since 1988, according to History Channel.
Aircraft also went missing
Aircraft have also gone missing without a trace in the Alaska Triangle.
One incident in 1950 involved a C-54 Skymaster that took off from Anchorage en route to Juneau on the afternoon of January 6 with a crew of 8 and 36 passengers. The last communication occurred while it flew over an area in Yukon two hours after leaving Anchorage. An extensive search-and-rescue mission involving airplanes and thousands of personnel found no trace.
In 1972, an aircraft carrying U.S. House Majority Leader Hale Boggs also went missing and was never found.
The multiple mysterious incidents sparked speculation about paranormal goings-on in the area.
UFO sightings
Reports of strange UFO sightings have also come from the Alaska Triangle. Witnesses reported strange aerial objects flying silently and low in the air, according to History Channel (see YouTube videos).
Residents also allegedly captured videos of mysterious UFOs unlike anything known to human technology.
Some speculated that the UFOs could be experimental crafts developed under U.S. government black projects. But others believe they could be of extraterrestrial origin or paranormal.
Cryptid sightings
There have also been reports of cryptids or monsters terrorizing remote townships in the area.
For instance, the now-abandoned town of Portlock in southern Alaska was a thriving commercial center. But it was abandoned by 1950 following alleged incidents of a strange creature terrorizing the residents.
Some identified the creature as a Bigfoot or Sasquatch, while others said it was a mysterious monster called the Montiak.
According to conspiracy theorists, the creature was from a different dimension. It was allegedly an interdimensional creature that appeared mysteriously from a portal, wreaked havoc, and disappeared mysteriously back into the portal.
