The West Virginia State Penitentiary will hold it’s 2nd Paranormal Expo on July 21st at what is known in the paranormal community as the “Moundsville Penitentiary”.

The paranormal convention is a fundraiser for the prison, tickets for general admission are only $10, but tours and extras have additional fees.

Moundsville is one of the most famous haunted places in the United States and it has housed a lot of famous inmates, including cult leader Charles Manson. Because of its popularity, it has been featured on many TV shows, such as the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures. At least 85 prisoners were hung in its courtyard and it is also home to “Old Sparky”, the electric chair that was used to execute 9 prisoners.

With the general admission ticket, you not only get to go on tours guided by WVSP guides, as well as freely roam and investigate on your own in many areas of the prison, as well as the grounds. For an additional $10 fee, you can go on what they’re calling a “mini ghost hunt” in which you investigate with a seasoned investigator and get to try out some of the latest paranormal technology. There’s an additional $60 fee for the investigation that takes place from 9pm-3am. There are limited spaces for the late-night investigation, so you need to buy those tickets soon if you’re going to.

There are going to be lots of lectures, presentations, and special guests. Among the guests are demonologists, authors, psychics, healers, and Sherri Brake, who literally wrote the book on ghost hunting at the penitentiary.

With guided tours, getting to use the latest equipment (which is probably a good way to try it before deciding on which types to buy), guest, lectures, presentations and vendors, the Moundsville Paranormal Expo seems like a great opportunity to learn and have fun this July!
