Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is introducing a new bill to establish a board tasked with reviewing and declassifying files relating to UFOs and extraterrestrials.
Schumer took to Twitter on Thursday (July 13) to announce he was “introducing a new legislation to declassify government records related to unidentified anomalous phenomena and UFOs as an amendment to the NDAA, modeled after the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act.” (See tweet below.)
[Note: The JFK Assassination Records Collection Act passed in 1992 authorized the release of classified government files relating to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.]
The latest news comes after Paranormal Papers reported that House Oversight Committee has tentatively scheduled its hearing on UFOs for late July.
Bill establishes a commission to declassify UFO files
The new bill promotes increased official openness about UFOs.
It may also help dispel speculation, rumors, and conspiracy theories that the government is concealing information about extraterrestrial intelligence from Congress and taxpayers.
According to the New York Times, the bill requires relevant government agencies to make their UFO files available to the commission within 300 days. It requires the president to set up a board of nine persons approved by the Senate.
The board will review and approve files for declassification while treading a thin line between full disclosure and protecting sensitive intelligence.
It has the support of Republican Senators Mike Rounds from South Dakota and Marco Rubio from Florida.
The House of Representatives also attached a similar but more restricted measure to its proposed annual defense bill. It requires Pentagon to declassify documents relating to UFOs.
New Bill may force Pentagon to release more UFO videos
The new bill may force Pentagon to authorize the release of UFO videos and photographic evidence the public has not seen.
Pentagon authorized the release of three previously classified videos in 2020 (see video below) after unauthorized releases in 2007 and 2017.
The first video (the so-called FLIR–advanced infrared camera–video), taken in November 2004, records an incident off the coast of California involving Commander David Fravor of the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group.
It shows a UFO flying at 80,000 feet (24,000 m). It then descends rapidly to about 20,000 feet (6,100 m) and stops abruptly to hover.
Two other videos captured between late 2014 and January 2015 involved fighter jets from the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group flying over waters off the East Coast.
They recorded two videos, GIMBAL and GOFAST, that showed aerial objects flying at tremendous speeds (see videos below).
UFO disclosure advocates believe that Pentagon may be keeping more consequential documents, videos, and photographic evidence that the new bill may help bring to light.
However, the Department of Defense (DoD) has repeatedly denied the UFO coverup allegations.
NewsNation reported that a Pentagon spokesperson said the DoD has no information “to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession or reverse engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently.”
Majority of Americans believe government is covering up UFO info
The latest news comes after Newsweek released the results of a poll that suggested that most eligible U.S. voters believe the government is covering up information about UFOs.
The poll, released on July 6, found that 57% of 1,500 voters surveyed believed the government knew more about UFOs than it was letting on.
Only 21% of the respondents said they did not believe that the government was hiding UFO information.
Thirty-four percent of the respondents believed whistleblower David Grusch’s allegation that the government was in the custody of alien spacecraft. However, 30% did not believe it.
Forty percent approved of Congress investigating UFOs, while 10% did not want it. Another 35% neither approved nor disapproved.
Some members of Congress accused government of UFO coverup
Allegations that the U.S. government is covering up UFO information have also come from Members of Congress, such as Representative Tim Burchett of Tennessee and Senator Josh Hawley.
Paranormal Papers reported that Senator Josh Hawley alleged that the government downplayed the number of UFO sightings and called for an investigation.
Rep. Tim Burchett also alleged that the authorities may have been hiding UFO information since the Aurora UFO incident in 1897.
He alleged that officials involved in the alleged UFO coverup were motivated by “greed and power.”
He then made sensational claims about alien technology.
According to the representative from Tennessee, alien UFOs travel faster than light and defy the laws of physics.
